A compact, residential water recycling system, the Hydraloop cleans and disinfects shower, bath and washing machine graywater to be reused for toilet flushing, gardening or pool water or to be recycled back to the washing machine.
With its patented technology, the Hydraloop can helps users reduce water consumption by 45 percent, sewage emissions by 45 percent and carbon footprint by 6 percent.
In countries where water consumption is restricted or expensive, lack of access to usable water affects hygiene and comfort.
“Our system helps to restore dignity [to those families],” the Hydraloop team said.
Although people are keen to contribute to the environment, many are less willing to sacrifice aspects of their lifestyle to live more sustainably. Hydraloop — which takes up minimal floor space — is automatic and self-cleaning, minimizing maintenance. It can also be retrofitted to existing houses or apartments, in addition to being installed in new developments.
The Tech Behind It
Water collected from the shower, bath and washing machine is collected into the Hydraloop, which then filters the water through an extensive six-step process:

Sedimentation.

Flotation.

Dissolved air flotation.

Enforced skimming.

Aerobic bioreactor.

UV light disinfection.
The Hydraloop lets owners prioritize the use of the recycled water. Users can specify, for example, that the cleaned water will be repurposed for bathroom use and washing machines, but in spring and summer, that the water instead be used for garden irrigation. Through an app, users are able to set these priorities, see the status of the recycling process, receive updates on how much water they have saved and get feedback on their water usage.
Once the treated graywater is depleted, Hydraloop will automatically switch users back to the main water systems until more treated water is available.
