Consumer Technology Association Trademark Usage Guidelines
Introduction
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® owns various brands, names, trademarks, and logos (collectively, the “CTA Marks”) that help establish our identity as a prominent figure in the consumer technology industry. The CTA Marks are valuable assets that CTA needs to protect. This document outlines the guidelines for using the CTA Marks for CTA employees, members, CES exhibitors, the media, and other parties to provide a framework to establish the distinct resources CTA offers. Anyone using the CTA Marks must follow these guidelines.
Permissible Use
CTA Members
-
CTA grants its members non-transferable, limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable permission to use the CTA logo solely in connection with their affiliation with CTA.
-
Members may use the CTA logo on advertisements, promotional materials, or web pages solely for the purpose of indicating their membership.
CES Exhibitor, Media and Exhibiting Media
-
CTA grants current CES exhibitors, media and current exhibiting media non-transferable, limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable permission to use the CTA Marks solely in connection with the current CES show.
-
Exhibitors can use the CTA Marks in communications, advertisements, and promotional materials directly related to the current CES show.
Media
-
The media can use the CTA Marks for editorial purposes only.
Other Parties and Partner Groups
-
Any other party or partner group must obtain CTA’s advanced written permission to use the CTA Marks.
Trademark Symbols
-
Use the TM or ® symbol with the first written appearance of the CTA Marks on any materials. The current list of CTA Marks and their registration status can be found below.
-
Include acknowledgment of CTA’s ownership of the CTA marks in the credit notice section. Examples: “CTA®, Consumer Technology Association®, and its logo are registered trademarks of the Consumer Technology Association” or “CES® and its logo are registered trademarks of the Consumer Technology Association.”
Proper Brand Use
-
The official name of our annual consumer technology tradeshow in Las Vegas is “CES®.” Do not use “Consumer Electronics Show” to refer to CES.
-
If referencing the year, it should come after the event name (e.g., “CES 2020”).
Prohibited Use
-
Do not modify or alter the CTA Marks.
-
Do not use the CTA Marks in a way that (1) confuses CTA, CES, or any CTA Mark with another brand; (2) uses the term generically; or
-
(3) indicates sponsorship, endorsement, or association with or by CTA, CES, or any CTA Mark without CTA’s advanced written permission.
-
Do not use CTA Marks in Internet domain names or social media accounts unless you are currently contracted with CTA for services or event partnerships and have approval from CTA. Contracted CES exhibitors may create subpages to promote their CES participation.
Quality Control
-
CTA is prepared to protect its intellectual property rights. CTA reserves the right to disallow any use of the CTA Marks if guidelines are not followed. Non-conforming users will be notified and given an opportunity to correct the issue.
By adhering to these guidelines, you help protect the integrity and value of the CTA and CES brands. For any questions or to obtain permissions, please contact CTA.
