Verizon’s 5G First Responder Lab aims to develop 5G solutions for public safety, and the latest group of innovative startups selected to join the effort is focused on solutions for emergency medical services and front-line medical professionals.
At CES 2019, Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg took the keynote stage to talk about how 5G would usher in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Only a few months earlier, Verizon had launched the 5G First Responder Lab in partnership with Responder Corp. with the goal of empowering first responders by delivering the life-saving capabilities they need to serve their communities.
The technology companies from around the world that are selected to participate in the 5G First Responder Lab are set up as cohorts of five companies with a specific focus, all powered by Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband.
The latest cohort, which focuses on solutions for emergency medical services, could not have been better timed. As the world faces the COVID-19 pandemic, the spotlight is on healthcare-related technologies.
Here is how the five companies accepted to this round are planning to accelerate the development of 5G solutions for front-line medical workers.
Real-Time Patient Monitoring
Biotricity offers a patient-monitoring platform that allows medical professionals to remotely identify potential urgent alerts.
Increasing the Efficiency of 911
Rave Mobile Safety provides a scalable communications and data platform that helps ensure better call resolution and response times and also allows for mass communication to the public, when needed.
Healthcare at Home
DispatchHealth brings medical care directly to the home. Call centers can divert 911 calls from non-emergency patients to the DispatchHealth board-certified teams.
Smart Glasses Provide a Second Set of Eyes
Vuzix, whose Blade Edge smart glasses were a CES 2019 Innovation Award honoree, brings its smart glasses products to the lab. The augmented reality smart glasses connect on-site first responders with experts to receive real-time feedback, without disrupting the flow of care.
Continuous Care Anytime, Anywhere
Visionable’s collaboration platform enables clinical teams to provide follow-up care to patients remotely. The platform connects various medical professionals virtually and brings the necessary patient records to them.
Throughout the duration of the cohort, these companies will continue to develop their products with the support of Verizon 5G specialists, engineers and Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network. Verizon plans to present the solutions as an end-to-end integrated bundle.
