Article Summary

The lights went up early across Las Vegas on CES 2024 media stages. Even before the show opened, thousands of media representatives and scores of industry insiders convened at venues on and off the Las Vegas Strip to hear big announcements from top brands.

Two days before the CES 2024 show floor opened, throngs of media packed portions of Mandalay Bay for sessions that included 23 press conferences led by global brands, among them Abbott, Bosch, Hyundai, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Volkswagen. As in the past, Media Days featured media-only press conferences, the CES 2024 Trends to Watch and CES Unveiled Las Vegas. Here’s a look at highlights.

Doosan Robotics

  • “Oscar the Sorter” was introduced by this leading collaborative robot – or cobot – manufacturer. It’s an AI-powered recycling cobot. According to the company, Oscar the Sorter “autonomously learns about products and sorts them, even recognizing crushed items without human interventions.”
  • Dart-Suite, described by Doosan in its press announcement as “a next-generation robot ecosystem,” was introduced. Intended to “redefine the robot experience,” the Dart-Suite platform allows consumers to “create modules tailored to their needs, much like mobile device apps.” According to Doosan, the Dart-Suite is similar in terms of usability to the smartphone.

LG

  • CEO William Cho announced the organization’s plans to transform as a “Smart Life Solution Company” that leverages AI to extend living and customer experiences.
  • State-of-the-art products were showcased at the press conference including the Signature OLED T to be available later in 2024. According to LG, this is the world’s first 4K, wireless, transparent OLED TV. Measuring 77”, it offers everything consumers want relative to picture, sound and other qualities without dominating a room’s space.

Samsung

  • Ballie upgrades: The company’s AI robot on wheels was first introduced as a prototype at CES 2020. Described during the press conference as “your true AI companion.” Ballie comes straight to the user, projects visuals, and performs day-to-day tasks such as turning switches on and off.
  • The company also announced its new transparent 110” Micro LED panel that, according to Samsung, “must be seen to be believed.” Media audiences were blown away, judging from the coverage received.
