Michael Casey

Senior Advisor, Digital Currency Initiative, MIT Media Lab

Michael Casey is an educator, researcher, journalist, entrepreneur, author and public speaker in the fields of digital culture and economics. He is a senior advisor at MIT Media Lab’s Digital Currency Initiative, a senior lecturer at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and Chairman of CoinDesk’s Advisory Board, as well as an advisor to various companies and not-for-profit organizations. Recently, Casey founded Network Effects Media, a data-driven video company covering themes of innovation and society under the StreamBed brand. Before joining MIT, Casey spent 18 years at Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal, where he served as a reporter, bureau chief, managing editor, TV anchor, and ultimately as a columnist covering global economics. Casey is the author of five books, including The Truth Machine: The Blockchain and the Future of Everything, co-written with Paul Vigna. He is a graduate of the University of Western Australia and has higher degrees from Cornell and Curtin universities
