Sunmin Kim

Technology Policy Advisor, Office of Senator Brian Schatz

Sunmin Kim is Senator Brian Schatz’s technology policy advisor. Senator Schatz is the ranking member of the Senate Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet. Before working in the Senate, Sunmin was technology editor for The Economist Intelligence Unit, the data and research arm of The Economist newspaper. Specializing in the North American enterprise tech sector and impact of technology on society and business, she reported on topics such as technology and competition policy, artificial intelligence, international startup cities, and cybersecurity. She previously served as deputy editor. Prior to joining The Economist Intelligence Unit, Sunmin was co-founder and executive director of Pro Journo, a science and business journalism nonprofit based in Zurich, Switzerland, and oversaw reporting from 16 countries. Sunmin received her master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan and bachelor’s degree in Biological Engineering at Cornell University. She holds a patent in the field of nano-optics.
